Refurbishment of Existing Arches for Network Rail
Major refurbishment of several large double height Railway Arches creating a new mixed cultural hub. Art, performance, and artisan food and drink are at the heart of the Union Yard community. The scheme was nominated by Network Rail for a Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Regeneration Award 2017 and is regarded as one of Network Rail Property Commercial Estates’ most significant projects. The scheme incorporates public feature artwork lighting ‘Cyclorama’ by artist Rachel Wilberforce and was commissioned by Network Rail in collaboration with Southwark Council, Better Bankside.
Robinson Kenning & Gallagher were approached by Network Rail to deliver the project from Grip Stages 1 to 8. The scheme consists of seven retail units; three arches are being used as theatre spaces, three as restaurants and one as a specialist fitness gym. The remaining four arches are high specification BREEAM rated ‘Very Good’ offices to CAT B fit-out level. RKG acted as Lead Consultant, Architects and Project Managers through the Grip stages.
