Spurgeon’s College required major upgrading to on-site student accommodation & educational facilities. The proposals were part of an overall programme to provide disabled access to all College buildings as a whole.
The desired solution for accommodating new College facilities developed through close consultation with the College students & board members alike.
The new on-site student accommodation block is located on the approach route to the college and will create an uplifting modern facade to the tired rear elevation, as well providing much needed mature students halls of residence.
The proposed two storey high Link Atrium, located between the main building and the library will create a new focal centre for the College, with common IT facilities and break-out areas. One of the important design principles was to considerately mediate the height of the stepped atrium roof between the main building and the library building.
