Robinson Kenning & Gallagher worked closely with the Croydon Health Services NHS Trust and Miller Construction to transform the redundant wings of the historical Art Deco Hospital into a 21st century Healthcare Facility. RKG were appointed as project architects from inception to completion of the £11.15 million Hospital makeover.
The detailed development process included workshops with all CHS user groups to allow staff and service user input into each design stage, to ensure the best possible outcome for both staff and patients.
The renovated hospital creates a new centre for integrated care services that now sees around 7,500 patient attendances each month. New facilities included physiotherapy and diabetic retinopathy clinics, an expanded imaging service, GP practices, an ophthalmology clinic, as well as the renovated Urgent Care Centre, which continued to serve the local community during the construction works.

The new Acute Medical Unit provides access to all the necessary treatments and diagnostic assessments for people with a medical emergency.
The new facility is made up of: A clinical assessment unit, which assesses patients who need further examinations or treatment before being discharged; A short stay area for patients who need to stay in hospital for one to three nights; A diagnostic area for rapid access to tests and an ambulatory care area, which provides treatment and observation to patients who don’t need to be admitted.
